Reducing the high expense of high tunnel coverings.

The USDA defines the Seasonal High Tunnel System as:
“A seasonal polyethylene covered structure with no electrical, heating, and/or mechanical
ventilation systems that is used to cover crops to extend the growing season in an
environmentally safe manner”    (Source)

Please click on the above SOURCE link to read other definitions.     The policy requires at least  6-mil greenhouse-grade, UV resistant polyethylene cover.   Most of the available materials provide only a suggested life of only four years, with no warranty.
We recommend starting with, or upgrading to Solexx greenhouse paneling to cover your greenhouse frame, hoop house or high tower.  Available in 3.5mm or 5.0mm thickness (R-values over 2.1) the shatter-proof glazing extends your growing season substantially longer than 6mil plastic with an R-value of only .89.   The durability and 10-year warranty provides a more cost efficient investment than replacing cheap plastic several times in the same time period.   Considering the potential loss of a crop to hail damage when 6-mil plastic fails,the savings increases further.

R Factor - the measurement of ‘insulating ability’ of the material. The higher the R Factor number the greater the insulation value.

U Value - the measurement of ‘heat loss’ through the material. The lower the U Value the less heat is escaping.
