OK, so if any of you know my family DON"T tell them that I posted this... my daughter thinks my hobby is interesting, but I don't think she follows my blog.
I stop on my daily commute to pick up bags of coffee grounds from a quick-mart. on the order of 30 - 40 pounds per day for my worm composting beds and general gardening soil suppliment.
Today... I pull in and open the privacy fence gate around the dumpster and grab two bags of coffee grounds from beside the dumpster. But WOW, does it smell like pizza... ???
The top of the dumpster was open and they had just emptied the store of time-expired (more than 2 hours old) pizza, donuts, breakfast sandwiches... I picked out 5 garbage can size bags of edibles (in worm terms) and dinner is heading to the compost heap this evening!!!
In case you haven't read much of my blog, I worm compost almost anything except meat and polyester suits in my worm bins. Over the weekend (did I write about that?) I sorted out about 20 5 gallon buckets of worm castings from my winter beds in the basement. This stuff is the consistency of shreded chocolate cake, and smells like Iowa raised black soil!!! The garden eats better than I do!! Worm composting is the greatest!
More as time permits,
Jeff da Vermeister at compostcritter
